At Caserío Pikamendi, you’re ideally situated to access some of the region’s most scenic and rewarding cycling routes.
Whether you’re a casual rider, a gravel explorer, or a seasoned road cyclist, the variety of terrain offers endless adventure.

Road & Scenic Cycling
The route from Getaria to Zarautz and on to San Sebastián is a classic for road cyclists. It offers coastal views, gentle climbs, and cafés where you can stop for pintxos. The rolling roads through Txakoli vineyards, quiet country lanes, and seaside stretches provide a scenic and satisfying ride without requiring extreme endurance.
More ambitious cyclists may head inland toward Itziar, Azpeitia, or the legendary climbs of Alto de Garate and Meagas, with panoramic views of the Cantabrian coast and green valleys below.

Mountain & Gravel Trails
The hills surrounding Caserío Pikamendi offer excellent gravel and mountain biking options, where riders can escape into lush forests and ancient rural paths. A highlight is the route over Alto de Garate, which passes the Arriaundi Tumulus, a prehistoric burial mound perched in the hills, combining natural beauty with historical intrigue.
These routes vary in difficulty and are ideal for exploration, training, or quiet connection with nature. The terrain is well-marked, safe, and remarkably unspoiled.

Trekking & Nature Walks

The land around Caserío Pikamendi invites exploration on foot — gently or boldly, but always beautifully. With a mix of rolling vineyards, dramatic coastlines, and lush forested hills, the Basque Country is an ideal destination for slow travel on foot, combining physical activity with the pleasure of being immersed in nature.

Local Hiking Routes
The area around Getaria, Zarautz, and Zumaia offers some of the most scenic and accessible trails in the region. One of the highlights is the circular route from Getaria to Zarautz, which hugs the coastline and rewards hikers with panoramic sea views, vineyard-covered hills, and the soothing sound of waves below. This route is suitable for all fitness levels and can be completed in just a few hours, with plenty of opportunities to stop and take in the landscape.
Another beautiful trail connects Zumaia and Deba, following the coastline across the famous Flysch cliffs — a UNESCO-recognised geological formation. Along the way, you’ll walk through ancient rock layers and enjoy some of the most dramatic seascapes in northern Spain.

The Camino de Santiago
A number of stages of the Northern Route (Camino del Norte) of the Camino de Santiago pass close to Caserío Pikamendi. This legendary pilgrimage, walked for centuries, offers travellers a spiritual and cultural journey along stunning natural paths.
The Getaria–Zumaia and Zumaia–Deba sections are stunning. They follow rugged cliffs, cross medieval bridges, and pass through ancient chapels and coastal hamlets. Walking a piece of the Camino is a profound way to connect with the land and history, whether doing a whole stage or just a portion.
